A contestants' table at the IPAPA Chili Cook-off. Howdy! If you missed the 2012 IPA Chili Cook-off this year, on February 24, you missed some good eats and lots of fun. In the words of Emily Brown, IPAPA President, the event “was a rip roarin’ success and a rootin’ tootin’ good time,” with lots of great chili and other snacks. Younger students found lots to do on the big lawn. Live music by IPA's very own International Rockalaureates (a...
Message to the Campus Community from the Headmaster Seven years ago today, 191 students and 27 employees gathered in the foyer of the Elementary School with dozens of parents to celebrate the first day of classes at Island Pacific Academy. If you have been around IPA for a while, you know the drama leading up to opening day; the unfilled promise of early funding to build; waiting for Central Pacific Bank to feel comfortable with loaning $6 million for a start-up school and their...
A new fence has replaced the “construction zone décor” in the southwest corner of the campus. Now that Wakea and Ala Kahawai Streets have been completed on two sides of the campus, a permanent fence has been installed. Parents and friends of the school responded generously in May and June to the appeal for funds to help the school finance this project. Over $36,000 was raised. Among the 87 donors, some 50 individuals donated one or more whole sections of the fence, at $...
How do you thank a volunteer who pretty much puts in a regular work day every day? We celebrate and thank a man we all affectionately call “Grandpa Jay” every chance we get, and receive so much in return. Headmaster Dr. Dan White joined others on campus recently in wishing him well on the occasion of his 77th birthday. Just a few days after that milestone, Monday celebrated with his wife, Marilyn, a 52nd wedding anniversary. Raised in rural Missouri, Monday learned many...
Headmaster Dan White outlined for the IPA community the urgent need for a fence, separating the school from Wakea Street. When Foodland opens in August 2011, Wakea will also open to traffic. From the time road construction began, almost two years ago, it has not been entirely clear until recently just when final preparations would be completed and the road would open. The construction of Foodland, and the final work on Wakea, began after the budget for 2010-11 was set. So, simply put, the...

This summer 15 eager students and three veteran chaperones will again take to the road on the western coast of the U.S. to visit colleges and universities. The trip has been modified from the first College Road Trip taken in the summer of 2008, based on feedback from that first year’s participants, but will include visits to at least 18 colleges and universities, along with time for sightseeing and fun. This optional trip for rising juniors and seniors provides the opportunity for...
IPA’s students display the power of human kindness and the generosity of spirit everyday at our school, and IPA’s parents are no different. Over the past 19 years, IPA parent Linda Dean has illustrated how powerful these two elements can be through her dedicated work with hundreds of foster children. Click to read about Linda’s many years of service.
The age old question posed is often to children – “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Getting to explore lots of interesting options is what Career Day in the Middle School is about. Thanks to the adult presenters, students learned some surprising things about some professions, and were introduced to some more unusual jobs. On March 18, some 30 professionals representing a wide variety of careers were met at the school entrance by the 8th grade Career Day...
A frequent comment heard in the auction room on Mardi Gras night goes something like this, “Wow, there’s so much great stuff here to bid on! Where does the school get it all?” The most critical source of auction items is YOU, the IPA parent. Every year, IPA parents find ways to contribute unique auction items via their businesses and hobbies or by asking for a donation in support of the school from a business they frequent or someone they know. Here are just some of the...
