Fifth grade students volunteer each year to serve as a Junior Police Officers for part of the year. Generally every member of the class serves in this capacity at some point. The goal is to give all fifth graders the experience of increased responsibility and growth of personal confidence which that helps to foster.
JPO are responsible for helping with crosswalk duty during afternoon recess. Wearing a special vest while on duty, the take very seriously their responsibility to help keep students safe when crossing sections of the parking lot. Though giving up play time when they are on recess duty, JPO learn the satisfaction that comes with helping others and rising to the demands of increased expectations.
