Language Arts Curriculum
The curriculum is structured around broad, transferable ideas, conceptual understandings, that all students need to be confident, creative, and effective communicators. Language Arts covers four learning continuums at every grade level:
- Oral language: encompasses all aspects of listening and speaking.
- Visual language: viewing and presenting are fundamental processes, which involve interpreting, using and constructing visuals ,and multimedia in a variety of situations and for a range of purposes and audiences.
- Written language - Reading: where the process of reading is interactive and involves the reader’s purpose for reading, the reader’s prior knowledge and experience, and the text itself
- Written language - Writing: where children are encouraged to express themselves and reveal their own voice, developing a variety of structures, strategies and literary techniques (spelling, grammar, plot, character, punctuation, voice), and applying them with increasing skill and effectiveness.
